Nurses in general are part of the diagnostic team, picking up information that doctors miss, e.g. when talking with or observing the patient and relatives. But as Mark Graber says, 'Nurses acting in a diagnostic role need the same training physicians need to be effective, including education on cognition and cognitive error. This training should be inter-professional, the first step in developing diagnostic teams.' Now that's food for thought.
